It Is The Gift, Not The Cost - How I Got Engaged

When it comes to giving a gift it is what comes from the heart that makes the gift special.  It is the same when giving a card.  Do you just pick out a card or do you pick a card with meaning?  I can remember back before you could make a nice card on your computer when I would stand there in the store for an hour or two only because it would take me that long to find a card with the right words.  Often my mother would tell me that I gave the nicest cards and that proved to me that the time I took in selecting a card was well worth the effort.  Once we got in the the computer world and you could create your own nice card, I never again purchased a store bought card.  It was so much easier for me to just sit at the computer because I could type in exactly what I was feeling and add my very special own pictures.  My wife has never received a store bought card from me.  Every one is homemade and with love and she is just thrilled with each one she receives.  She has them all hanging in the bedroom right where she can see them while lying in bed.

This may not sound very romantic to you but the card pictured here is the  card that was used when I asked my wife to marry me.  Well, I didn't actually ask my wife to marry me.  I had my dog Missy ask her for me but there was a reason for this.  My wife and I met on Yahoo Personals.  I had found her profile and wrote to her.  She wrote back to me and then it got to the point that we talked on the phone several times a day.  Not long after that we met in person.  It wasn't until quite a while later that she told me why she responded to me when I wrote to her.  In one of my photos I was holding my dog Missy and she said when she saw that picture she said to herself, "Anyone that could make a dog look that happy would surely treat a woman good."  Due to this once I decided to ask Barb to marry me I decided to call her parents and ask them to invite us to dinner.  I made the card asking Barb to marry me and insisted that Missy go along with us to dinner.  After dinner we all sat at the kitchen table and I placed Missy on Barb's lap with the card.  Actually it was a bit comical because Barb opened the card and sat there reading it to herself and just before getting to the part where Missy asks Barb to Marry her Daddy, Barb stopped reading and said, "Oh, this is so funny that I have to read it out loud."  Just so you know, when she did get to the part of would she marry Missy's Daddy, the answer was YES! YES! YES!  I later surprised Barb by creating a slideshow that totally describes the events from when I originally wrote to Barb up to and including the day we got engaged.  With it being reduced for the computer it may be a bit difficult to keep up with the words but you will get the general idea.  Here is the link: How I Got Engaged (Note: If this slidshow runs slow on your computer you can click just below the slideshow to download it to your computer and it will play fine once downloaded)

I also don't necessarily go out and purchase a gift for my wife for her birthday.  I make her something that came from the heart and she tells me that it means much more to her then anything that could be bought in any store.  Last year in the early morning of her birthday while she was still sleeping I sat here and made her a slideshow.  Yes, that was her gift from me and she loved it.  There is no reason for me to describe the slideshow to you.  It can be viewed right here:  You Got It!  (Note: If this slidshow runs slow on your computer you can click just below the slideshow to download it to your computer and it will play fine once downloaded)

I will admit that this type of gift giving may not work for everyone but it always works for me and brings an unforgettable smile on the face of my wife.

A Day With "Summer"

Up until this particular day I had only taken pictures of nature and wildlife.  A friend that belonged to a photography club asked me if I would like to go along to Fort Hancock with a group to photograph a model so I figured I would give it a try. I was so pleased with the results that I decided to create a website of that photo session. Some of the photos I left untouched out of the camera and many I enhanced. It was so hot that day there was no way possible that Summer could wear any makeup at all so of course I had to do a bit of painting on the portrait shots. Here is the link to that site:  A Day With "Summer"

Florida Birds

When going to my son's wedding in Florida I decided to make it an extended stay so I could do some wildlife photography while there.  I spent most of my time on Anna Maria Island and was very pleased because the birds were plentiful.  If you watch the slideshow I hope you enjoy it.
